Coach Pigatti shares his first memory of the game of basketball as a child and how he rocked the old school Chuck Taylor’s! Coach P, as he is known as, discusses him as a player briefly before going into how he landed his first coaching job (5th Grade Girls).
His journey as an asst for 19 years. His stops include:
Elmhurst, Creighton, Texas A&M, Western Michigan, St. Joseph’s (IN), Akron, Chicago St, Kent St, and St. Francis PA all before landing his first head coaching job at SSC.
Hear how he started out as a part-time coach and his other job, working the Michael Jordan camp. Along with his explanation of being a Restricted earnings Coach. We discuss his mentors, how recruiting was done in those days, communication issues to overcome, and how he watched the Sopranos!
John Pigatti was the President of National Asst Basketball Coaches Committee from 1996-2001. We go in depth of what they changed in today’s game and his connections to many HOF coaches. His belief of how AAU has changed recruiting, his interview process and the challenges he has at SSC.
